This text looks at the behavior of steel structures and the criteria used in design according to the British code BS5950:2000. Information is presented on the loads which act on structures, the material properties of structural steels, and the behavior of steel structures. Four chapters are devoted to the behavior of members under tension, compression, in-plane bending, and torsion. Also treated are the local buckling of plates under in-plane loading, the lateral buckling of unbraced beams, and the in-plane behavior, lateral buckling, and biaxial bending of members subjected to both axial and transverse loads.
